We planned to stay in Linz today, but we gave up looking for a room after the first five hotels we visited all claimed to be booked full. We drove 30 km further to Wels. We’re in Gasthof Gösser.

I doubt you will find a free hotel room in Munich during Oktoberfest. You better look for a place nearby (or come to Zurich directly)
